Introduction

Introduction
This is a general solution which should work for each Guild Guide and even for a single Maleficient. Of course some things could be optimized. But my goal was to provide a solution, that works for each Champion and also for the Maleficients.

Possible optimizations and alternatives might be mentioned where appropriate.
The aim of this guide is to explore as much as possible and to get as much Challenge points as possible.

The aim is definitely not to run through as fast as possible. Anyway – who wants to run fast through this fantastic game?
All notes are based on version WIP008.
Most game terms start with uppercase letters.
Spells will only be used after detection!
(I like my rock hard – Lee Aaron)
I'm not a native speaker, but this also has an advantage: people of my language should easily understand me...

Important Warning
Do not edit this page manually!!! I generate the complete page automatically from a private file. So anything you change will be lost after my next update.

In case you find something that should be changed/added, please let me know: either here or in the Dungeon Master forum (I'm Zan there also). Please let me know also, whether I should mention your name as input source or whether you prefer to stay anonymously.

Formatting Notes
Some entries look like
<champion 1, champion 2, ...>: text
These are valid only for the mentioned champions / champion groups.
Some places are marked as "Important Place", so you can easily search for them in this document.
Some sections are backgrounded purple. These are heavy spoilers.

For example for the Black Pudding, there is first a section that simply says: "Kill the Rock Pile". This section is followed by a purple section giving you a trick how to do this very fast.

Some Notes

Some Rules for Beginners
Save often.
Open guild doors early.
Avoid climbing into unknown pits as long as you have other options.
Think twice before pressing a switch.
Don't waste keys on doors, unless you are sure you can't get behind it in another way.
Many doors can be opened by bashing, fireballs, door-opening spell, lockpicks or in special ways (e. g. stepping onto a certain square that is far far away...).
Save more often.
Avoid fighting in narrow corridors if possible. If you lure enemies into a room, you can try attacking them from behind (2x2 squares is sufficient).
If a monster is too strong – maybe it is intended not to kill it? Many monsters can also be circumvented.
You can also try to calm them away.
Fireball (aka Exploding Fire) is the best friend of the Maleficients. So is Fury...
Save even more often.

Items I often take with me in the early game when I have them
Scroll – The Challenge
Empty Flask
Lockpicks
Keys (Iron, Gold, Emerald; for checking doors for this guide...)
Compass
Rope
Fury (I love these extra Fireballs...)
Vorpal Blade
Long Lost Wand (Calming is great!)
Bone Doll (Maleficients only)
Waterskin
Food (about 1-2 Gorgonzolas or equivalent food)

A Note to Doors
I normally close doors behind me – except if I want a quick retreat back.
This keeps most enemies in a defined area. Of course some of them walk through doors anyway...
As an example let's take the door to the Wine Cellar in the beginning. When I go down here I normally let it open.
When I go up, I close it normally. So when I go down again, I can cast some light spells if necessary without being disturbed by Small Rats or even worse Gigglers or Leprechauns.

10 Questions
Did you know that...

you can get the Rope in the Storage Cellar without climbing into those damned pits?
there is a way you can climb down the pit east of the Rope and leave from there to the ladder to the Cellar without dropping all your belongings?
you can take the Supplies for the Strong without a Branch and with a health of 1?
there is a rather easy way to kill the Black Pudding without fighting?
you can leave the Long Lost Wand's room with the Long Lost Wand and without using the Iron Key?
you can recharge Fury with Wisdom less than 10? And why you shouldn't do that?
there is a square where you can use the Clairvoyance spell and get the message "Voyeur"?
you can spawn a Caterpillar in the Sewers?
you can spawn a Xorn in the Sewers?
there is a good reason why sometimes items seem to vanish when fighting the Gigglers in the Ninja Guild?

Special Notes Regarding the Champions

G4

Keep in mind, that a group of 4 champions doesn't level up as fast as a single champion... (and it needs more food...)

Iaido

Be careful using the Shuriken. You really don't want it to vanish in a pit or behind a locked grate door in case you miss the enemy.

M*

Suicide and resurrection is not an option!

Prelude for the Maleficients – Some Considerations
(maybe interesting for other groups also)

Summary
We consider four important points here for the Maleficients:
1. Combat
2. Water
3. Branches
4. Mana
5. Light

These points might be of interest for other groups also...

Combat

Combat is hard for the Maleficients. Rats are easy, because they are silly enough to walk under doors immediately to follow you (and you can attack them from behind). But the Chewer Trees don't do this that quickly. This makes the fight rather long, which in turn often results in food shortage.

Avoid fighting Chewer Trees with the Maleficients too early!

Water

There are three Waterskins available (and 4 options to get them) in the early game:

1. One in the Chewers room in the Storage Cellar – although it is not a good one (you need to click half a day for drinking...).
2. One behind the Iron Key door to the right of the entrance to the Storage Cellar. You can bash this door (but Maleficients are to weak for this) or use an Iron Key.
3. One in the Cellar in the "Supplies for the Strong". For this one you need to be strong – which is no problem. Furthermore, you need a Branch – which is a problem that will be considered in the section "Branches" below.
4. You can get the last Waterskin also without a Branch and with low Health. It just needs a little more running around...

We want a good Waterskin – so only options 2-4 remain.

Option 1

In case it takes you too long to get the Waterskin (or if you have doubts about this) you can take the one in the Chewers room in between to survive. The Chewers there can be circumvented without fighting them (see option 2)!

Option 2

Maleficients use an Iron Key (or some SAR Wines...) while other Champions just bash the door.

To avoid being trapped by the Chewers, I recommend the following strategy for the Maleficients (other Champions of course can just kill them): if the Chewers are in their room you have enough time to take the Waterskin. If they are near the stairs, go up and down the stairs until they are on the right side (!). Now lure them into their room, where you can circumvent them. Then run to take the bag with the Waterskin and return up the stairs.

Thus you can gain the Waterskin – but you also activate a Chewer generator that generates another 4 Chewers in the Chewers room. This might make it difficult to get the Corbum behind the northern door later.

Option 3

The problem with Waterskin 3 is to get the necessary health to take the Supplies for the Strong (and you might be disturbed by Rats or Gigglers...). You can fight doors (which is quite boring) or Cave Rats in the Rat Lair (which is dangerous and time consuming). I have tested it both with doors and rats for most groups (especially also for M1) and always got the Supplies for the Strong and the Waterskin in time with a reserve of about 50% water left.

Option 4

You can re-open the door to the "Supplies for the Strong" if you take the Monk Staff of the "More Supplies for the Strong". My approach makes use of this fact. More on this later.

RESULT

I will use option 4 in this guide and take the Supplies of the Strong without worrying about a Branch! Yes, this is possible...

If you want to try out option 2, go to the Storage Cellar immediately after receiving the FUL spell! Then you can continue with the southern part of the Cellar and the Rat Lair.

If you prefer option 3, go down to the Sewers immediately after Aim 1 and get one as described in section "Branches". Then after receiving the FUL spell, go to the Rat Lair until you are strong enough for the Supplies for the Strong. Then you can continue with the southern part of the Cellar

Branches

You can find five Branches in the early game:
1. Kill the Chewer Trees in the Storage Cellar.
2. Down the foul smelling stairs to the Sewers in the eastern corner is one just lying around.
3. Or kill the Chewer Tree there.
4. Behind the Solid Key door in the north-eastern part of the Cellar.
5. One lies in the Supplies fo the Strong – great...

Since we don't want to fight Chewers, 1. and 3. are not an option (and of course 5. isn't also).

To get the 4th Branch means some running to get the Solid Key first – and lots of chances to meet rats, which means additional running... Good chances to run out of food or water...

So, what about the second? You can go down the foul smelling stairs to the Sewers. If you just run into the eastern corner, you might be trapped by the Chewer Tree there. So, lure the tree to the square south of the pit (while you are east of it). Now rush to the East and get the Branch. Rush back and up the stairs. This would be a good solution – but unfortunately, if the Chewer Tree has left his origin square it might block your way making this solution impossible.

This leads us to option 3 again. But wait – what if the Chewer Tree would already be dead? Yes, this is possible! Before champion selection do the path down the foul smelling stairs, where Gando gets his second Corbum. Make sure that you rush over the Chewer Tree (just as you rush over the Flame in front of the Maleficient Guild). After champion selection go down to the Sewers again as fast as possible. If you are fast enough, you can return here, before the tree respawns and easily take the Branch.
You might also find an additional Branch here from the earlier killed Chewer. And also a Chewer Pod if you are lucky.

Mana

The Maleficients start with 0 Mana. This is not a problem if you select all 4 Maleficients, since they can pray with the Bone Doll. But it is a problem if you select only one Maleficient. You need to equip him with mana spending items to gain Priest and Wizard experience. In the early game, you'll find a Monk Staff (+2 Mana) and a Moonstone (+3 Mana). This is sufficient to cast either the YA spell or the FUL spell in two steps.

Note: since praying does not consume Mana, you can additionally use the YA and/or FUL spell, to gain even more experience.

Light

Since the Maleficients can't carry much stuff, it is important to reduce the number of needed torches. So we need the light spell as soon as possible (remember: we don't use spells before detection to make things harder...). The spell can be found after the first door of the Wizard Guild, which can be opened with a Plasma found quite early.

Fireball

Fireball makes life much more easy. So we try to get this spell as early as possible. More on this later.

Summary

So, this is the plan for the beginning:
1. Before champion selection, go down "Gando's way" and step over the Chewer in the Sewers.
2. Resurrect/reincarnate champions.
3. Go down to the Sewers and take a Branch (only for option 3!)
4. Go to the Wine Cellar.
5. Kill the Giant Cave Rat (not mentioned before, but useful...).
6. Get the Monk Staff and the Moonstone.
7. Get the Plasma.
8. Open the first door to the Wizard Guild.
9. Get the light spell.
10. Then we care about water and food.

Aim 0 – "Before" Start (Ghost)
X X X X X X X X If you are planning to play with Zed or don't have a plan yet: step to the right to pray. This will give Zed an extra Monk Staff later.
Note: I do this always, just in case other effects are triggered – who knows?
X X X X X X X X Step onto the Black Flame in front of the Maleficient Guild to kill it.
X X X X X X X X If you are planning to play with Gando or don't have a plan yet: do "Gando's Way" down the foul smelling stairs through the Sewers: go in front of the "FOUL SMELLS..." stairs and go: 5xFront 3xRight 1xBack 10xFront 2xLeft 6xFront (fast!) Right Front Right 2xFront 3xLeft 1xBack 3xFront and you'll back to the starting point. This will give Gando an extra Corbum later.
Note: I also do this always, just in case other effects are triggered.
X X X X X X X X Important Note: do always "Gando's way"!
Make sure that you rush over the Chewer Tree in the Sewers – but do not kill it in the niche where it spawns. You might later find an additional Branch (and a Chewer Pod if you are lucky) here.

Finished / TBD

This section lists all open stuff that has been detected, but not yet been explored or done:
- stairs, ladders, teleporters, ... not yet used
- doors not yet opened
- corridors not yet used
- riddles not yet solved
- enemies not yet defeated
And so on.

"X" means: done (or not relevant)
"---" means: to be done.
If all groups have an "X", the entry is removed next time.

Aim 2 – Character Equipment
--- --- --- --- --- X X X M*: don't forget to take the stuff that appears in the alcove oppposite of the Maleficient Guild.

M4, M4-1: Use the Bone Doll for praying from time to time.
X X X X X X X X Gather the rocks and torches where you fell down. One of the torches is burnt out but the other is the best one in the beginning (and there is use for burnt out torches also...). Even the boulders can be useful...
--- --- --- --- --- X X --- Gain experience.
M4, M4-1: Go down the foul smelling stairs and the next one and pray once.
X X X X X X X X Take the start equipment in the Guilds – especially the Challenge Scroll.
--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- Behind the doorway to the Guilds is an inscription "To the Room of Fate" and a button. Pressing the button teleports you there (save game before doing this). In the Room of Fate you can train to deal with Gigglers. Don't waste too much time with them – you get almost no experience points here (1 XP per spell and hit) but lose food and water. This is only helpful if you are completely new to the game and don't know what Gigglers do... Best reload afterwards.

Furthermore, you can also make your life harder here...

I don't press this button.
--- --- --- --- --- X X X M*: Take only absolutely necessary stuff with you, because of your low stamina. And the stamina decreases when you just walk even if you don't carry any load...

So, I normally take only one torch for light, later also one torch for closing Pit D and the Bone Doll for praying (and the Challenge – just to make sure that I don't forget it...).
X X X X X X X X Create your camp here. Put unimportant stuff onto the ground and important stuff into the Alcove where you found the Challenge. When opening Guild doors, you will get more alcoves to store and sort important stuff.

Aim 4 – The Wine Cellar

Summary
Kill the Giant Cave Rat to find a Mace.
Kill the small rats if you encounter them.
Open a passage to the Cellar.
We also go here to find just a useless scroll...

Note: we don't waste time searching for Iron Key or ZO Liqueur (torches don't burn forever – at least most of them...). We'll take them later.

Aim 4 A – The Cave Rat
X X X X X X --- --- Take a burnt out torch with you.
M4-1, M1: we have to return to the Guilds in between to reduce load... We'll take it with us later.
X X X X X X X X Go down the stairs to the Wine Cellar.
--- --- --- --- --- X X --- M4, M4-1: pray once.
--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- Note: in case you encounter rats, lure them to the entrance door and let it help you – even the small rats can kill you with one hit.
X X X X X X X X Go and find the Cave Rat. Kill it (the entrance door is your friend...). You'll find a Mace.
M*: "damned – the Mace is heavy..."

Aim 4 B – Find the Passage to the Cellar
X X X X X X X X Take the two torches next to the entrance door if you want them.
X X X X X X X X Take the bag with the inventory scroll in the left corner. You will need zillions of bags... Look into it later at a safe place and you'll find a Scroll.

Note: this Scroll is not counted for the unimportant scrolls in the statistics since we will sacrifice it soon.
X X --- --- --- --- X X Return to the Guilds to clean the inventory.
--- --- --- --- --- --- X X Take a burned out torch with you.
X X --- --- --- --- --- --- Use a Mace to open the first door of the Fighter Guild.
X X --- --- --- --- --- --- Bash the second one. Strength 49 can be sufficient.
Note: your bashing is better if your stamina is high!

Aim 5 – The Cellar 1 – The Northern Part

Summary
We do only the absolutely necessary for now: getting the Plasma and the Moonstone (for Mana). On our way we also explore the Northern part of the Cellar.and collect some food there.

Be prepared to meet Gigglers, Leprechauns and/or Rats.
X X X X X X X X Enter the Cellar.
--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- Note: a good way to get rid of rats is Pit D (but keep in mind they also provide steaks!)... But be careful about Gigglers. You really don't want a Giggler, that has stolen items from you, to fall into this pit...
X X X X X X X X Go two times right. You'll see the Supplies for the Strong. Step into the doorway and step back immediately. The door closes.
--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- Note:
The door to the Supplies for the Strong can be opened again when you take the Monk Staff of the "More Supplies for the Strong" later. You can even get the Supplies for the Strong quite easily without a Branch and with low health if you do the following:
1. Step into the door and step back immediately. The door closes.
2. Do the path to the Long Lost Wand to gain access to "More Supplies for the Strong" and take them. Put the Monk Staff back into the alcove.
3. Return to the Supplies for the Strong. The door is now open. Take items. After taking the Scimitar, step back.
4. Go east two more steps and from there follow the Long Lost Wand path to "More Supplies for the Strong".
5. Take the Monk Staff. This opens the door again.
6. Return to the Supplies for the Strong. Take the Shuriken. The door stays open now.

Thus you can take everything here without a Branch and with Health 1!
X X X X X X X X Go to the North to the Fountain of Wisdom and take the map to the Long Lost Wand. Check for rats, before entering the dead end here, so that they don't trap you.
X X X X X X X X Go to the north-eastern corner of the Cellar. From where you found the the Monk Staff there are two ways: either just 12 squares east and then 13 squares north, or along the ladder to the Temple. I prefer the second one, because there seem to be less monsters there (and because of Gorgonzolas – see below).
X X X X X X X X I go down the ladder. Nothing special here. But a good place for resting, taking the Scroll out of the bag, putting other stuff into it, praying and savegame.
M4, M4-1: pray once.
X X X one only X X X X On your way don't forget the Gorgonzolas in the north-western part. Hopefully the rats have not yet detected them... Be careful when going there – it's a quite long dead end.
Note: "---" means: the Rats (or Gigglers) were faster...
--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- A Boulder is also lying around – seems to have no further meaning. You cannot even kill the Rat with it – at least not now.
X X X X X X X X On your way you also can find a Stone Mushroom and two Spitter Berries.
--- X --- --- --- --- --- --- Encountered a Giggler which dropped a Gold Key.
--- X --- --- --- --- --- --- Encountered a Giggler which dropped a Silver Coin.
--- --- --- X --- --- --- --- Encountered a Giggler which dropped a Silver Coin and a Gorgonzola.
X X X X X X X X Open the door to the Fountain of Ignorance. Feed it with a scroll (I use the one found in the Cellar) to open the Door of Answers.
X X X X X X X X Go to the West and close Pit D.
X X X X X X X X Go to the Door of Answers and take the Plasma, the Shining and the SAR coin.
X X X X X X X X Near Pit D take the Moonstone and the Blast Spore. Leave something (burnt out torch, rock, ...) to close Pit D again. The Moonstone provides 3 Mana, which is important for Leif and very important for M1.
X X X X X X X X Go east then south. You pass a pressure plate and an inscription to the wall. On the pressure plate, you here a grate door moving. This is the starting point for the path to the Long Lost Wand. Remember it.
X X X X X X X X When you reach the pit, turn right and return to the Guilds.

Aim 6 – The Guilds – The FUL Spell

Summary
Open Guild door(s).
Gain the FUL spell.
X X X X X X X X Use the Plasma to open the first door of the Wizard Guild. The Plasma does not work for later Wizard doors.
X X X X X X X X In the bookshelf there you find your first Wizard spell (FUL).
X X X X X X X X Congratulations: you are now able to cast a spell for light and no longer need torches. Cast this spell from time to time to gain Wizard exerience.
--- --- --- --- --- X X --- M4, M4-1: Go down the foul smelling stairs and the next one and pray once.
X X --- --- --- --- --- X Leif: since Leif has not enough mana for this spell, you should equip him with the Moonstone at least until he gets his first Wizard level.
M1: equipping Monk Staff and Moonstone to him lets him cast the FUL spell in two steps.
X --- --- --- X --- --- --- Use a Corbum to open the second door of the Wizard Guild.
X --- --- --- X --- --- --- Use a Corbum to open the third door of the Wizard Guild.
((X)) X X ((X)) X X X --- Use a Monk Staff to open the first door of the Priest Guild.
((X)) X X ((X)) X X X --- Take the Bag.
X --- --- X --- --- --- --- Use a Monk Staff to open the second door of the Priest Guild.
X --- --- X --- --- --- --- Take the YA Scroll from the bookshelf.

Aim 7 – The Cellar 2 – More Supplies for the Strong
X X X X X X X X Return to the Cellar. Go south until you are east of the Supplies for the Strong. Go east and follow the rest of the path to the Long Lost Wand.
X X X X X X X X At the first pit go south.
X X X X X X X X When passing another pit take a look to the left. You see bones – keep them in mind. After the pit go east again.
--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- Note:
If you need a rest you can go the stairs down.
X X X X X X X X North of the stairs you should see an alcove with "More Supplies for the Strong" which among others contains a Monk Staff and a Blast Spore. Take them. When you take the Monk Staff yu can hear a grate door moving.
X X X X X X X X Put the Monk Staff back into the alcove!!!
--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- Do not yet climb down the pit.

Note:
In fact, I would only climb down into unknown pits, if no other option is left. As long as there are stairs or ladders, where I can (hopefully...) easily go back, I prefer these.
--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- Important Note:
Do not use this Blast Spore. We have a special use for it later...
X X X X X X X X Go back to the Supplies for the Strong. Take everything including the Scimitar. Furthermore, you find a Full Waterskin, some food, a Shining Necklace and other stuff. After taking the Scimitar step back immediately.

M1: was successful with health 5.

Aim 9 – The Rat Lair 1

Summary
Kill rats until the doctor comes for Fur Rags, food and experience and also to get strong enough to take the Supplies for the Strong.
Get a VEN Egg.
Since we are going to meet a tough guy soon (the Minotaur) experience is also welcome... Kill Rats until you are Apprentice Fighter and Ninja.

Notes:
1. The Rat Generator is on the square mentioned in the map description. But it is activated elsewhere...
2. The Rats respawn quite fast first. But see important note below.

Rat Lair – Important Note

The time will come, when it looks as if no more Rats respawn. But this is not true!
As I see it, after a certain number of Rats have spawned, the respawn timer is increased to an incredible huge amount. Maybe one rat per hour or something like that.

Other people reported that they get unlimited Rats fast. So there seems to exist some mechanism that deals somehow with the respawn timer. I don't know what it is and would recommend not relying on unlimited Rats. There is enough other food there, btw.

X X X X X X X X Take with you one or better two bags. You will find lots of stuff.
--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- Take with you rat poison. Oh wait, we don't have rat poison... Damned, that might get hard...
X X X X X X X X Return to the cellar, then go first to the East and then to the South.
X X X X X X X X Before entering the Rat Lair, go to the East and take the Steak.
--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- Enter the Rat Lair. Before dealing with the rats think about collecting the 4 Gorgonzolas, the VEN Egg and the Bones (M* should think about this twice...). I recommend a counter-clockwise round for this. You should be fast – otherwise you might get trapped between two rats. Then await the rats at the northern entrance to the rat lair, where you easily can maneuver them out.

I take normally only the first Gorgonzola now and the rest later after gaining some experience (hoping everything is still there...).
--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- If you need a place to rest you might go down the stairs near the pit to the Long Lost Wand. You might also increase your Priest and Wizard experience there.
X --- --- X X --- X X First Gorgonzola taken ("---" means, the rats were faster...).
X X X X X X X X Kill some rats for food and experience until you are Apprentice Fighter and Ninja (exception G4, M4: Novice Fighter and Ninja).
Note: check for diseases before saving!
X X X X X X X X Bones taken
X --- --- X --- X X X Second Gorgonzola taken.
X X X X X X X X VEN Egg taken.
--- --- --- X X --- X X Third Gorgonzola taken.
--- --- --- X X --- X X Fourth Gorgonzola taken.

X X X X X X X X Return to the Guilds.
((X)) ((X)) X X X X X X Drink SAR Wines to increase your strength to 50 or more.
((X)) ((X)) X X X X X X Bash the second door of the Fighter Guild (and go through!).

Interlude – The Flask

Now that we have Light, Food, Water and Mana, our next big goal is getting a Flask, so that we can produce potions for Health and Stamina regeneration. For this, we need to go to the Treasure Area – but before we have to deal with the Minotaur...

Interlude – The Fireball Spell

This spell will make life much easier for the Maleficients. Since it is hidden in the Wizard Guild, we need some more Corbums to unlock guild doors. One of them can be found in the Treasure Area.

Interlude – Guild Items

6 Guild Items can be found in the Treasure Area. So this is where we should go next.

Interlude for the Maleficients – Some Considerations
(maybe interesting for other groups also)

The Maleficients still fight incredibly bad. So now it's time to think how to proceed.

As the Maleficients still refuse to fight Chewer Trees, I defer the Storage Cellar.

My next aim normally would be the Treasure Area as mentioned above. Unfortunately, before we get there, there is the Minotaur's Maze. Though the Minotaur can be defeated by normal champions, I doubt, that my Maleficients can do it – at least not in a fair fight... Of course, they will try it – but we need a plan B here...

OK... There are two ways into the Minotaur's Maze, which we will examine in the next sections.

Way 1: the ladder in the Rat Lair

You can go up here but will have a rather long way through the maze. Also, there is no way to bypass the Minotaur here – except if the beast is silly enough to walk into one of the dead ends. I wouldn't rely on that.

Way 2: the Solid Key door in the Northeast of the Cellar

Going through the Solid Key door and farther to the East you will find a stairs up to the MIPS area. There are Chewer Trees here, but they can be circumvented if necessary. From the passage from the MIPS area to the Maze it is only a few steps to the end of the Maze.

Chances are about 50%, that the Minotaur is here. In this case, it blocks the passage and doesn't go away!

The Minotaur doesn't enter the MIPS area so you can slowly tear it down.

OK, after some more thinking I decide to use Way 2 for all champion groups for the following reasons:

1. I don't like having enemies in my back – at least not living ones.
2. We can get a Sapphire in the MIPS area, which we can use a little later.
3. Last not least: the Minotaur has a Mace...

This way is quite easy even for the Maleficients. So, if the Minotaur is not at the MIPS entrance door, I will search it and lure it there and fight it anyway.

Aim 10 – The Cellar 4 – The Way to the MIPS Area
--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- M*: if you want to fight the Rock Monster, take enough food with you. The Rock monster is quite hard (but there is also an easy solution) ...
I suggest about 5-7 Gorgonzolas or 3-5 Steaks per Champion...
X X X X X X X X Take the Solid Key with you.
X X X X X X X X Take the Zo Liqueur and the VEN Egg with you.
--- --- X X X --- --- --- Go to the Wine Cellar and fill up SAR Wines to 3 again.
--- --- --- --- --- X X X Go to the Wine Cellar and fill up SAR Wines to 16 again.
X X X X X X X X Enter the Cellar and go straight to the East as fast as possible. Take the Scroll in the alcove and place the ZO Liqueur and the VEN Egg there.
--- --- --- --- --- X X X Deposit the SAR Wines in one of the alcoves near Pit D to reduce load.
X X X X X X X X Go to the Solid Key door in the Northeast of the Cellar and open it.
X X X X X X X X Go to the East.
X X X X X --- --- --- Kill the Chewer Trees.
--- --- --- --- --- X X X Circumvent the Chewer Trees.
X X X X X X X X Go up the stairs.

Aim 11 – The MIPS Area 1 – Get a Sapphire

Summary
We use the MIPS area only as a passage to the Minotaur's Maze for now – and also to take a Sapphire.
We'll come back later to solve the riddle. We don't have the right spell yet, and the Maleficients most probably will be too weak anyway.
X X X X X X X X After you have seen the inscription "Pay for Safety" open the next door to the left, go in and wait a little...
If you turn to the North while standing in the doorway, you can see a Scroll and a Key in an alcove. Keep this in mind for later.
X X X X X X X X Continue to the South until you see two doors. In front of the right door is a Rock Pile.
--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- If you want to fight it, bash the door first. Otherwise many kinds of damage go against the door instead of the Rock Pile (e. g. Ninja's Kick). If you are too weak: there is a switch nearby to open the door...
X X X X X tbd X X Now kill the Rock Pile (I use the pit trick desribed below!) and gather its treasures – Emerald, Sapphire and more.
M4: was not able to do the pit trick, so deferred this to later...
--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- Black Pudding Strategy Hint

Instead of fighting, you can also defeat the Rock Pile as follows:

Open the door vis-à-vis the Rock Pile and stand in its archway. The Rock Pile throws 2-20 Rocks against you but can't hit you with them. Finally it steps one step forward. Now step back into the pit behind you. You fall into a teleporter which teleports you onto the Rock Pile's square killing it easily.

If you don't have enough health to survive falling into the pit just continue and come back here after cleaning the Minotaur's Maze – or when you have gained access to the Treasure Area and killed some Chewers there.

G4, M4: the Rock Pile throws its rocks farther if you have a full group! They can hurt you! Always the right front Champion gets damage. So rotate them. If you get too much damage from rocks, step forwar and left or right, heal, then stand in the doorway again. This was no problem for G4. But M4 being just Novice Fighters and Ninjas couldn't all survive pit falls.
X X X X X X X X Next go into the passage to the West and take the Sling.
X X X X X tbd X X I pressed also the button to open the Black Pudding's door and went into its room.
--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- Do not yet open the Emerald door. You don't have the spell, that is needed later (at least not "officially"). Keep it in mind (or on your list).
X X X X X X X X Going south you see a destroyed door... If you come from the other side you can destroy the door with a fireball (most probably you must be a Journeyman Wizard to do this).
--- --- --- --- --- --- --- X Encountered a Giggler which dropped an Iron Key.
X X X X X X X X Search the Minotaur, lure it to the destroyed door, kill it and take its Mace.
X X X X X X X X Go through the destroyed door and then to the East.
X X X X X X X X Follow the path until you see a Bag and a ladder. Take the Bag – it contains your second VEN Egg and other stuff.
X X X X X X X X Climb down the ladder. It leads you to the Rat Lair again...
--- --- --- --- --- X --- --- Kill Rats until you are Apprentice Fighter and Ninja (for Black Pudding).
X X X X X X X X Return to the Guilds and clean inventory.
((X)) ((X)) X X X X X X Use a Mace to open the third door of the Fighter Guild.
((X)) ((X)) X X X X X X Take the Sword and the Leather Armour.
X X X X X --- X X Take the Sapphire with you.
X X X X X X X X Go back to the Rat Lair.

Aim 12 – The Minotaur's Maze 1

Summary
Nothing more special to do – just clean from enemies.
X X X X X X X X Climb up the ladder to the Minotaur's Maze.
X X X X X X X X Clean the Maze from enemies until you are at the destroyed door to the MIPS area. If you need a rest, you can do it there.

X X X X X X X X Find an arrow behind a grate...
X X X X X X X X Furthermore, there is a fountain to examine here...

Aim 13 – The Treasure Area 1 – The Teleporter Rooms

Summary
Solve the riddle to gain access to the Treasure Area.
We do only the most urgent stuff for now:
- take KATH Vinegars
- find the hidden stairs to Pit D in the Cellar
X X X X X X X X Solve the riddle to gain access to the Treasure Area (the fountain gives a hint...).

Note:
I'm not sure about the preconditions for the second stone-throw. All of my groups except M4 had a Journeyman Ninja and succeeded quite fast. M4 had only Apprentices and I did many many throws without success. Trying to get more strength or dexterity with SAR Wines for Apprentices did also NOT help. After some training for Journeyman Ninja, M4 also succeeded quite fast. Journeyman Fighter worked also quite fast. So my conclusion is: the thrower must be either Journeyman Fighter or Ninja.

So I went back to the Rat Lair and killed some Rats with M4. Unfortunately, I reached the Rat limit quite fast after killing 3-4 Rats. So went for killing a small rat and this made one of my Champions a Jourmeyman Ninja. And yes, the eightth throw was successful now!

Note: I later tested with Iaido. He was successful as an Apprentice Ninja! Strange...
--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- Hint: Riddle Solution

1. Stand in front of the pit and throw a small item through the grate door in the North to remove a wall.
2. Stand between the pits and throw a small item into the eastern teleporter. It is deflected to the left and removes a second wall.
3. Stand in front of the second pit (where you removed the first wall) and throw a small item to the North when the teleporter is off (best when it just vanished)! This removes a third wall.
4. Step onto the pressure plate in the teleporter in front of the third pit and throw a small item into the northern teleporter. This closes the pit.

You might need several attempts sometimes.
X X X X X X X X Press the small button near the grate door to remove another wall in the Northeast.
X X X X X X X X When entering don't forget to take a look at the clothes in the alcove on the eastern side.
X X X X X X X X When entering the crossing in the North, where Chewer Trees appear in front of you, go through the door in the West. Close the door behind you. Yes – thousands of KATH Vinegars wait here for you.

Note
Do not waste time fighting the Chewers now, since new Gigglers might arrive soon again and take stuff lying around.
X X X X X X X X Take everything lying around in the room. Don't overlook the scroll. Don't step onto the green square while collecting – it's a teleporter.
X X X X X X X X Find the hidden stairs to the Cellar.
--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- Hint: Gaining Access to the Stairs to the Cellar

You can distinguish both rooms easiest by the torch lying in the southern room (or putting down something unimportant yourself.

1. In the southern teleporter room go to the West, then south. The wall in front of you is illusionary. Step in. Touch the fountain. This removes a wall in the northern teleporter room.
2. Step onto the teleporter (green square) to teleport into the northern room.
3. Now you have to get into the niche two steps north. Unfortunately, the square north of you is a leleporter. But it is not always switched on. I don't know, when it switches on/off but got the iimpression chances are best, when the door near is open. But I succeeded also sometimes when the door was closed or moving.
4. If you have reached the niche, after 5 seconds another wall vanishes next to you and you can go down the stairs.

Instead of going into the nich in step 3, just throwing something there (e. g. the Robe that is lying around) works also. But it does not help you if you want to go through the moving door.
X X X X X X X X Go down the stairs to the alcoves near Pit D.
X X X X X X X X Store the torch in the Alcoves there.

Aim 14 – The Cellar 5 – The Flask

Summary
We get our first Flask and the first point for the Challenge.
X X X X X X X X From Pit D go to the East and to the South. In front of the pit turn left and go the alcove. Put a KATH Vinegar there and get a Flask (in another alcove nearby). A Mushroom is also there.

Yes – getting the first Flask was much easier in Dungeon Master...
X X X X X X X X And don't forget, to take back the used components again! You can do this before taking the flask, if you want.
X X X X X X X X Return to the Guilds.
((X)) X ((X)) X X X X X Use the Shuriken to open the second door of the Ninja Guild.
X --- X --- --- --- --- --- Use the Shuriken to open the third door of the Ninja Guild.
X --- X --- --- --- --- --- Touch the hand on the wall.

Aim 15 – The Treasure Area 2 – The Teleporter Rooms Revisited

Summary
Take remaining items in the teleporter rooms.
Gain access to the Tailor's Gifts.
X X X X X X X X Return to Pit D.
--- --- --- --- --- X X X Take the SAR Wines you stored in the alcoves there.
X X X X X X X X Go up the stairs to the Treasure Area again.
X X X X X X X X Take the stuff in the northern teleporter room.
X X X X X X X X Teleport to the southern room and leave it through the door.

Aim 16 – The Treasure Area 3 – The Statue

Summary
Find a way to the Statue.
X X X X X X X X If you face Chewer Trees here, kill them. If you are to weak for fighting you can lure them to a teleporter destination square and then teleport onto them. They will not be amused...
X X X X X X X X Try to bash the door on the left side.
Strength 50 seems to be sufficient. Drink SAR Wines if you need more strength.
X X X X X X X X Behind the door a statue awaits you. You can examine it, but it has not much to say... So, destroy it!
X X X X X X X X Grab into the Gem lock behind the statue and you are bitten by a poisonous snake. No, this was just a joke... You find a Mace!
X X X X X X X X Place the Sapphire into the Gem lock and you additionally receive a Corbum.
X X X X X X X X Leave the room.
X X X X X X X X Return to the Guilds.
((X)) X X X ((X)) X X X Use a Corbum to open the second door of the Wizard Guild.

Aim 17 – The Storage Cellar 1 – The Third Corbum

Summary
Get the third Corbum.
Get another unimportant Scroll.
X X X X X X X X Take with you the Blast Spore found at "More Supplies for the Strong".
X X X X X X X X Take with you an Iron Key.
X X X X X X X X Go down the stairs to the Storage Cellar and open the door.
X X X X X --- --- --- Search the Chewer Trees (normally they are in the room to the left). Kill them.
--- --- --- --- --- X X X M*: Circumvent the Chewer Trees. Do not fight them – it still takes very long.

If the Chewer Trees are standing in your way north of the stairs lure them to the right side of the stairs. Eventually you have to go up and down the stairs some times until they are to your right. You can also lure them into their room and circumvent them there without fighting. Eventually you have to repeat this several times, to get everything you want here.
X X X X X X X X Go to the Gold Key door in the North.
X X X X X X X X Use the Blast Spore from "More Supplies for the Strong" to blast a big hole into it.
X X X X X X X X Don't forget to take the ashes of the door.
X X X X X X X X You find here among others: a Corbum, a Gold Key and a Crossbow.
X X X X X X X X Go down the stairs. You see another Gold Key door. Return to the Storage Cellar.
X X X X X X X X Go into the Chewers room.
X X X X X X X X Take the Waterskin in the Chewer room if you want (although you shouldn't need it).
X X X X X X X X Take the Scroll also – you'll need it soon...
--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- Touching the fountain here summons more Chewers. Good training stuff (and food)! But weak champions should be cautious: the Chewers might appear on the square just behind you blocking your escape if things go bad.

Hmm – not sure how this works. There seems to be a cooldown on using the fountain – not always when I click it, Chewers appear.

M*: Even worse: I doubt, whether I really earn more food than I consume during these fights. So it looks like the Rat Lair is the better option: one Rat – one Steak! Sounds good, doesn't it? Unfortunately, the Rats seem to be limited...

Anyway, it's still too early to try this out.
X X X X X X X X Take the torch, if you want.
X X X X X X X X Open the Iron Key door vis-à-vis the entrance door. You'll find another bag there. You will need zillions of bags... Did I mention this already?
X X X X X --- --- --- Next bash the door south of the entrance door (it's easier with high Stamina, so maybe sleep before!)... A strength of 39 is sufficient.

M*: note
Do not open the Iron Key door to the Waterskin until you have killed the Chewers. If you take the Bag with the Waterskin, you would run over a square that generates another Chewer group. You dont want to have two Chewer groups running around here...
X X X X X --- --- --- You'll find a Rock and a Bag with an Empty Waterskin. Yes, another bag...
X X X X X X X X Return to the Guilds.

Aim 18 – The Guilds – The Fireball Spell

Summary
Get the third Corbum.
Get another unimportant Scroll.
((X)) X X X ((X)) X X X Use the Corbum to open the third door of the Wizard Guild.
X X X X X X X X Solve the Wizard Guild riddle: place ten scrolls in the right-hand-side frame at eye level.
X X X X X X X X Take the Bag with the Mage Caduceus. This staff can cast Lightning and Window.
X X X X X X X X Go to the left, then turn left. Take the Scroll out of the bookshelf there. It tells about a Philosophal Stone. We'll add this to our TO DO list.
X X X X X X X X Turn around. Here you find the Alchemical Oven – including 3 instruction scrolls. Use it once before opening each further door.

First usage: Kath Vinegar + Zo Liqueur = Corbum

Note:
If you have already a fourth Corbum, you might try another choice depending on your play style.
X X X X X X X X Use a Corbum to open the fourth door of the Wizard Guild.
X X X X X X X X In the next alcove to your left you can unlock the Fireball Spell.
X X X X X X X X In the bookshelf to your right is a reminder for your next oven usage.
